IREENA has once again launched the NewGen Renewable Energy Accelerator (NewGen) programme, aimed at empowering young people to actively engage in the energy transition.

This initiative supports youth in creating and implementing innovative solutions in the climate and sustainable energy sectors, serving as a platform to showcase youth-led innovation on a global scale.

The programme’s objective is to equip young participants with the necessary tools, knowledge, and support to bring their ideas to fruition. IRENA now offers assistance to youth-led start-ups, scale-ups, and growing businesses to nurture their development and accelerate their business endeavors.

Program Details

Through close collaboration with partners, IRENA will connect successful candidates with funding opportunities, business networks, and other resources to facilitate the launch of their projects into the market.

The programme includes various training, mentoring, and knowledge-sharing activities, as well as opportunities for market and investor connections, all aimed at expanding the reach of these businesses, enhancing their climate and sustainable energy impact, and assisting them in securing investments for the implementation of their business plans and solutions.


Participants in the NewGen Renewable Energy Accelerator program will enjoy the following advantages:

Eligibility Criteria

  • The program is open to individuals aged between 18 and 35 from any part of the world. At least one founder of the start-up should be in the 18-35 age range. The main focus of the start-up’s business should fall under the following categories:
  • Renewable Energy technologies (such as solar, wind, hydropower, green hydrogen, geothermal, and bioenergy)
  • Climate adaptation technologies (including Water Security, agriculture & Irrigation, livestock, Flood safeguards, and Resource efficiency)
  • Climate Mitigation technologies (covering transportation, decarbonization, circular economy, energy efficiency, energy transformation, and smart grids).
  • A commitment from at least two of the start-up founders to dedicate 16 hours per month to attend the accelerator sessions.
  • By applying for the selection process, participants affirm that all submitted documentation is original, created solely by the applicants, and does not violate any copyrights, trademarks, or the rights of any person or entity.


  • Enroll in a comprehensive four-month hybrid acceleration program where you will collaborate with experts in renewable energy and business to strengthen your business model, expand your customer reach, and improve your readiness for investment. The participants of the NewGen Renewable Energy Accelerator will be revealed on May 1, 2024.
