Ikea’s $39.99 pad adds built-in wireless charging to almost any table – do you know that Ikeas’ Sjomarke fits right under a table turning it into a charger. The Sjomarke puts a wireless Qi charging hotspot right under the surface of your plastic or wood furniture.
Ikea’s $39.99 Pad Adds Built-in Wireless Charging to Almost Any Table
The Ikea Company has set the pace early on selling furniture that is embedded with wireless charging coils. But what if you don’t have one of these powered-up desks or units? If you are one of the many who would love to seamlessly charge their devices without having to do much readjusting or anything of the sort, then you will have to wait for a little into next month as there will be a solution by then. The Sjomarke is a $39.99 wireless charging pad that is made to work easily with the furniture you already own.
Just like most Qi charging pads, this very device is different. You really do not need to put your phone or device directly on a mat, but instead, the 7-inch by 3-inch aluminum and plastic charger works directly through wood or plastic. And with this, you can use double-sided tape or screws to place it on the underside of a table.
All you have to do is to mount your device on plastic or wood. And when this is done, it would safely send an electric charge through to your gadgets and devices on the other side. It’s that easy but it will need a minimum distance of about 8mm from the phone. The company, Ikea, recommends that you use it with a surface between three-eighths and seven-eighths inches thick.
It is perfect to mount on a side table, desk or bedside when you want cables and charges to seamlessly blend into décor to keep the surroundings neat and tidy according to Ikeas’ manual (pdf). The device comes with a six-foot power cable and stickers to make a mark of the location of your new charging spot and also sticky tape.
When Will the Sjomarke Be Available For Purchase?
There is a LED indicator that shows the charging status. It also has temperature and power monitoring for safety reasons. The device is compatible with the latest Qi 1.2.4 baseline power profile. With this, you can expect it to perform in the range of the standard 5W charging. There are no Samsung, apple, or Google-specific improvements here with this one.
But however, it is impressive enough if you would love to charge your device by putting it on the desk or a place where it sits already. The Sjomarke will be available in-stores and online in the US and a host of other countries in October, a spokesperson confirmed to the verge.
