AUILR is an important journal with relevant academic material, which receives approximately 1,500 submissions every year and publishes a wide range of legal scholarship from professors, judges, practicing lawyers, and renowned legal thinkers.

The American University Washington College of Law (AUWCL) will award six awards, three for each language as follows:

  • Best Essay in English and Spanish
  • 2nd Best Essay in English and Spanish
  • 3rd Best in English and Spanish
  • Successful winners will receive a certificate that accredits them as such and that can be presented to any organization or educational institution if the recipient considers it important.
  • Awards will be the publication of the essays in The American University International Law Review (AUILR) if publishing standards are met.

  • You will need to add your curriculum vitae (CV)/resume of three pages maximum in length explaining your experience or interest in human rights issues.
  • Once you’re done, Submit the CV as a separate file from your essay.

Eligibility Criteria for AUWCL Human Rights Essay Award Qualification

  • The AUWCL award is Open to all lawyers around the world regardless of their nationality.
  • Ideal Participants must have a law degree Juris Doctor, (J.D.), Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) or equivalent by the submission due date.
  • The applicants should have a demonstrated experience or interest in international human rights law.
  • Candidates must have the flexibility to choose any subject related to the 2023 Topic mentioned above:
  • Note that the essay must be an academic article with proper citations.

Essay Requirements

  • The essay must not be longer than 35 pages
  • The essay text should be size 12, Times New Roman font, double-spaced
  • The Footnotes size 10, Times New Roman font, single-spaced
  • The Margin should be a 1inch (2.54cm) all around
  • The Page size letter (8.5 x 11 inches/21.59 x 27.94 cm)
  • Ensure that tTher is no information identifying the author in the essay
