Applications are open for the GI-TOC Resilience Fellowship Program 2023. The 2023 intake of the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime (GI-TOC) is the 4th edition which will have human rights as its theme.

The GI-TOC Resilience Fellowship Program is a global collaboration between civil society stakeholders, human rights activists, journalists, artists, scholars, policymakers, and grassroots community leaders, collectively working to counter the effects of organized crime.

The GI-TOC Resilience Fellowship Program is based on a three-pronged approach:

  • Sponsorship: The Provision of financial support to Fellows to enable them to have time and resources in carrying out their work and a collaborative project. Each Fellow will receive a grant of US$15 000 awarded for one year.
  • Networking: Access to Mentorship opportunities with experts from the GI-TOC.
  • Dissemination: This involves establishing platforms for Fellows to publicly share their work and ideas. These include conferences, civil society forums and national and international platforms,

Brief History Of Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime (GI-TOC)

The Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime (GI-TOC) is an international non-governmental organization headquartered in Geneva.

GI-TOC is a network of law enforcement, governance and development practitioners, who collectively share the objective of developing innovative strategies and responses to organized crime.

The GI-TOC network had about 500 experts as of July 2020. Meanwhile, the organization was officially launched at the United Nations headquarters, in New York in September 2013.

The GI-TOC Fellows will each receive US$5 000 to be used in line with the principles of professionalism, integrity, transparency and collaborative actions with other fellows.

Eligibility Criteria for GI-TOC Resilience Fellowship Program Qualification

  • To be considered for the GI-TOC Fellowship, applicants should have a background in any of the following fields: Journalism, advocacy and community mobilization; creative arts, community leaders, academia, and human rights practitioners.
  • Considerations will be given to Applicants having other disciplines however, their work must be relevant to the Fellowship’s objectives and theme.
  • The Resilience Fellowship welcomes applications from Males and Females, persons from any ethnicity, age, religion or any other defining factor, who work in communities affected by organized crime.

Selection Criteria for GI-TOC Resilience Fellowship Program

  • Participating fellows must hail from countries disproportionately affected by organized crime and/or from least developed countries.
  • Fellows are expected to work closely within communities severely affected by organized crime, or have strong ties within them, and should have ongoing or established projects or engagement.
  • The Participants should work towards the protection of human rights that are being violated or threatened due to the prevalence of organized crime and criminal governance.
  • The participant is expected to show how the funding and support will be used.
  • Participants should be familiar with their communities’ issues, related to the annual theme.
  • Must be fluent in at least one of the following languages: Spanish, English or French.
  • Must be seen to be committed to the ethics and values of the Resilience Fund.
