The Generation of Environmental Leaders Program (GELP) is calling on young people from Canada, Mexico, and the United States to share their ideas for taking action to protect the environment and support North American communities, as well as to preserve our collective natural resources such as water, land, and air.

The chosen youth from North America will be part of a mentorship program that lasts for a year, and they will also be given C$15,000 in seed funding. Also, they will be able to be part of a collaborative community, share knowledge, and have the opportunity to present their ideas to top environmental officials in North America. They will also receive valuable networking and mentorship opportunities.

  • Seed Funding: Receive C$15,000 in seed funding to develop an impactful solution. This support will empower you to contribute to your community and shape a sustainable future.

 Eligibility Requirement

  • To participate in the CEC Generation of Environmental Leaders Program, individuals must be aged between 18 and 35 when they submit their solution on the Foundant platform.
  • The solution must be submitted by a representative of the team, who must also meet the eligibility criteria. The solution requires the inclusion of two team members, both falling within the 18-35 age range. Eligible participants should belong to a team, which could include youth-led organizations, associations, NGOs, and not-for-profit youth-led organizations, as well as teams of young innovators or entrepreneurs seeking to develop their businesses.
  • Participants must be citizens of Canada, Mexico, or the United States.
  • Participants must show that their solution can effectively tackle important issues concerning the support of North American communities and the conservation of our shared water, land, and air.
  • CEC staff, winners of the Youth Innovation Challenge, and members of the Traditional Ecological Knowledge Expert Group (TEKEG). And the Joint Public Advisory Committee (JPAC), as well as their immediate family members, and judges of the Generation of Environmental Leaders Program. Along with their immediate family members (such as siblings, children, and grandchildren), are not eligible to apply.
  • The youth leader representing the team, along with an additional team member from each country, will present their solution at the 2024 CEC Council Session scheduled for the summer of 2024. Therefore, participants must possess a valid passport at the time of submission and be ready to apply for any necessary travel documents if they are chosen.

  • Feasibility (25%)
  • Consistency with the CEC’s core strategies and the focus of the program (15%)
  • Identification of problem/issue (10%)
  • Innovation (10%)

  • Participants are required to submit their solutions through Foundant. Each submission must provide the necessary details for the team representative and an additional team member.
