Gary Bowser has finally been freed from Prison. The popular console hacker, Gary Bowser is now on his way home to Canada, although he will still get to pay a whopping sum of $14.5 million to gaming company Nintendo.
Gary Bowser Freed From Prison
Console hacker Gary Bowser is at the moment getting released from federal prison after the latter spent more than two years behind bars, as initially reported by TorrentFreak (via Gizmodo). In an interview held with YouTuber Nick Moses, Bowser states that he was released to a Washington detention center in the previous month, where he currently awaits his return to Canada, his home country.
Bowser Was Arrested and Charged With Fraud Back In 2020
Bowser as you recall was arrested and charged with fraud back in 2020 for his role in Team Xecuter which is a hacking group that made and sold mod chips for the Nintendo Switch, 3DS, NES Classic Edition, Sony’s PlayStation Classic, as well as many other consoles. And since Bowser was living in the Dominican Republic at the said time, he was extradited to the US in a bid to serve his 40-month sentence, which he reveals has been cut short all because of good behavior.
Bowser Still Has to Pay Nintendo Even Though He’s Free from Prison
Although Bowser has currently been released from prison, that however still doesn’t free him from the staggering amount owed in restitution to Nintendo by him. Bowser already agreed to pay $10 million to settle a piracy lawsuit that was filed by Nintendo, and that’s already on top of a separate federal court order that requires him to pay the gaming company the sum of $4.5 million. Bowser says that he has managed to pay just $175 back so far.
