Philip right now is offsite at IFA 2022 in berlin showcasing a range of AV gear, everything ranging from OLED TV sets to soundbars, speakers, and headphones. One highlight though is its EISA award-winning Fidelio FBI which is a very powerful integrated soundbar that is capable of delivering 7.1.2 Dolby Atmos audio.

The FB1 up close has a very stylish design with a metal mesh grill and Scottish Muirhead leather accents on the cabinet and top control panel. Its front LED display also provides visual feedback in response to remote control commands for input switching, processing mode selection, and volume adjustment.

Each of the soundbars, center, left, front and right speakers make use of a traditional D’Appolito configuration in creating a wider listening arc. There are also two side-mounted speakers for enhanced surround and also a pair of upfiring speakers for Atmos height effects. When it is used as a standalone unit, the dual woofers of the FB1 deliver bass down to a specified 50Hz.

The FB1 alongside with Dolby Atmos supports DTS: X immersive sound and can stream music wirelessly through DTS Play-Fi, Spotify connect, and Chromecast. Alexa, Google, and Siri voice assistants are all supported for hands-free voice control.

Fidelio Is Planning To Expand Its Platform

The FB1 already is a complete package, but all the while Philips was displaying it as a part of an expanded 7.1.4 system with its W1 wireless subwoofer and S1 wireless speakers with all of it being paired through DTS Play-Fi.

The compact W1 comes packed with an 8-inch woofer and double-suspended passive radiators. One interesting feature noted in the presentation I caught was that, when it is paired with the FB1, the soundbar’s crossover pushes up automatically to 75 Hz, thus allowing for the sub to take most of the low bass chores off of the hands of the soundbar.

The S1 Wireless Speaker Is Outfitted With LED Lights

And aside from being able to add both surround and Atmos effects to a 7.1.4 system, the S1 wireless speaker is outfitted with LED lights in a bid to extend the Ambilight experience when it is paired with one of the similarly featured TVs of the company.

The effect of that in demos that included the S1 was able to create a subtly psychedelic and interesting lightshow, one that is accompanied by dynamic visuals from the TVs of the company, and powerful cinematic sound from the FB1 bar and thus accompanying wireless sub. And judging from what I have seen and heard so far, the FB1 easily could be a contender for the best soundbars for 2022.
