About Daemen University

Daemen University has a rich history that dates back to it’s establishment in 1947 as Rosary Hill College. The university was said to have been established by Sisters of St. Francis of Penance and Christian Charity, who were inspired by the dedication of Magdalene Daemen, a Dutch woman who was committed to working with the less fortunate.

The university has been accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education since 1956 and reaffirmed in 2017. Daemen University was originally a liberal arts college exclusively for women, it became co-educational in 1971, extending its commitment to academic excellence to both men and women.

As a result of its independence and nonsectarian In 1976, the university changed its name to Daemen College.
