The CSIR Bursary Programme 2023/2024, is aimed at empowering African students in the fields of science, engineering, and technology.

CSIR Bursary Programme

The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, commonly referred to as  CSIR, is offering a Bursary Programme with the aim of providing financial support to full-time, unemployed students who are passionate about pursuing qualifications in areas prioritized by the CSIR.

This program is specifically targeted at increasing the representation of women and black individuals in the fields of science, engineering, and technology. In providing this financial assistance, the CSIR aims to create equal opportunities and foster diversity in these crucial sectors.

For Masters and Doctoral Students:

Eligibility Criteria for the CSIR Bursary Programme 2023-24

To be considered for the CSIR Bursary Programme as an undergraduate student, you must meet the following conditions:

  • Intend to enroll full-time for the degree of your choice at a South African public university.
  • Possess relevant certificates for admission into the university.
  • Have passed all the courses for which you registered at the university for the study period already completed if you are a current university student.

For Postgraduates:

For postgraduate students (Master and Doctoral), the following eligibility criteria apply:

  • Good scientific writing skills.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent academic record.
  • Must be driven to carry out research, be self-motivated, and be able to work independently and within a team.
  • Must be able to formulate and carry out research.
  • Excellent technical abilities.
  • Must be able to work effectively under pressure as part of a team
  • Meet scheduled deliverables.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written, with evidence of report and/or conference paper writing.
  • Good report writing skills.
