The Young African Leaders Initiative, commonly referred to as YALI, is initiated of the U.S. Government, with the aim of investing in the future generation of African leaders. In line with its commitment to fostering sustainable development and addressing the challenges posed by climate change, YALI Regional Leadership Centre is thrilled to present an exclusive opportunity for young African innovators and leaders.
The YALI Africa Climate Tech Innovators and Leaders Program 2023 is a three-week in-person program designed to empower participants through learning, networking, and collaborative action. This program aims to bring together young African talents who are dedicated to making a difference at the intersection of climate action and technology. The program will take place from October 9 to 27, 2023, in Accra, Ghana.
Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI)
The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) was established by the United States government to invest in the next generation of African leaders. Africa’s youthful population represents a tremendous opportunity for growth and development, with nearly one in three Africans between the ages of 10 and 24.
Moreover, approximately 60% of Africa’s total population is below the age of 35. It is crucial to empower and nurture these young Africans to shape the future of their communities, businesses, entrepreneurship, civic leadership, and public management.

YALI aims to develop exceptional leadership skills among young Africans to drive positive change in their communities. The program provides participants with the necessary tools, resources, and training to become effective leaders in various sectors, including climate action and technology.

YALI encourages young Africans to actively engage in civic affairs and contribute to the development of their societies. By fostering a sense of responsibility and promoting civic participation, YALI empowers young leaders to address pressing issues, such as climate change, through innovative and sustainable solutions.
Entrepreneurship and Economic Opportunity
YALI recognizes the importance of entrepreneurship and economic growth in Africa. By supporting aspiring entrepreneurs and equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed, YALI fosters a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem that drives economic development and creates job opportunities.
Eligibility Criteria for YALI Climate Tech Innovators and Leaders Program
To be eligible for the YALI Africa Climate Tech Innovators and Leaders Program 2023, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Age: 18 and 35 years old.
- Language Proficiency: Fluency in English is required as the program will be conducted in English.
- Commitment to Climate Tech Solutions: Applicants must demonstrate a strong commitment to making a positive impact in their community, country, or continent through the implementation of climate tech solutions.
- Experience in Climate Tech: Applicants should have a proven experience and track record in the climate tech space, showcasing their expertise and contributions in this field.
