Australia Awards Scholarships – How to Apply

The Australia Awards Scholarships was formerly referred to as Australian Development Scholarships (ADS), the scholarship program offers good study opportunities to students from developing countries, to enroll for full undergraduate or postgraduate study at participating Australian universities.

Australia Award scholarship interviews are usually carried out by independent selection panels chaired by Australian Government officials, this selection panel comprises Australian academics, African alumni, and industry experts.

The interview is also open to representatives from African partner governments as observers and provide advice on the country’s context and policy priorities for the government. The Awards may also organize English language testing of shortlisted candidates during the selection process.

Australia Awards Scholarship programs

In other to help secure a position for the Master’s program at an Australian University, the applicants’ preferred institutions will be approached on their behalf, two institutions alone will be contacted with a request for placement for each applicant.

Upon subsequent receipt of an institution’s offer of placement, Palladium then proceeds, on behalf of the Australian Government, to finalize the formal offer of the scholarship.

Meanwhile, the Awards will not be offered pending when the contract accompanying the letter of offer has been signed by the candidate and counter-signed by the Australian Government.

Study program: Undergraduate or Postgraduate Programmes that are related to the applicant’s country’s priority areas for development which are listed on the participating country profiles.

The awards do not include training in areas related to flying aircraft, nuclear technology, or military training.

Awards target group: Australia Awards Scholarship targets citizens of one of the participating countries in Asia, the Pacific, Africa, and the Middle East.

Scholarship Worth/duration: Generally, the scholarship benefits include: full tuition fees, return air travel, establishment allowance, living expenses, Overseas Student Health Cover, Introductory Academic Program, Pre-course English fees, etc.

Australia Award scholarships are offered for the minimum period necessary for the individual to complete the academic program specified by the Australian higher education institution, including any preparatory training.

Eligibility

Being eligible to receive the Australia Award scholarship, all candidates must:

  • Candidates must be at the past 18 years of age on 1 February of the year of commencing the scholarship;
  • Candidates must be a citizen of a participating country, they must also be resident in and applying for the scholarship from their country of citizenship;
  • Must not be a citizen of Australia, hold permanent residency in Australia, or be applying for a visa to live in Australia permanently;
  • The applicant must not be married to, engaged to a person who is eligible to hold Australian or New Zealand citizenship or permanent residency when the application is ongoing or during selection Stage
  • Current serving military personnel are not eligible
  • To be eligible, you ought not to have previously received a long-term Australia Award, unless you’ve resided outside of Australia for twice the length of the total time you were in Australia
  • Applicant must not have records of convictions of criminal activities
  • Candidate should ensure to satisfy any specific criteria established by the Program Area or the government of the applicant’s country of citizenship.
  • Must meet all the admission requirements of the institution at which the award is to be undertaken
  • Must also be able to satisfy all requirements of the Department of Home Affairs to hold a Student Visa.
  • Applicant must not be applying for a scholarship for a course of study at an academic level lower than already achieved
  • All candidates must inform the Program Area of any connection or relationship to staff employed at Program Areas
