Apple’s highly anticipated mixed reality headset, the Vision Pro, is set to hit the market on February 2, with pre-orders already underway. While the starting price for the headset is $3,499 for the 256GB storage variant, Apple has unveiled additional storage tiers, along with optional accessories and add-ons, providing insights into the potential total cost of ownership.

The storage options for the Vision Pro include a 512GB version priced at $3,699 and a 1TB version at $3,899. Although an international release date is yet to be announced, the starting price, excluding tax, roughly converts to £2,750 or AU$5,300.

Apple Offers AppleCare Plus for $499

For device protection, Apple offers AppleCare Plus at a cost of $499. This protection plan becomes particularly relevant for an expensive device like the Vision Pro, especially considering its unknown durability.

Several optional accessories are also available for purchase. Notably, the travel case, designed to protect the headset from dust and dings, is sold separately at $199. Belkin provides a clip-on battery holder for the dangling battery pack, facilitating movement while using the headset, and it is priced at $50.

Additional batteries can be acquired at a cost of $199 each, offering flexibility for users who wish to extend usage beyond the rated two to two-and-a-half hours.

Prescription Lenses Are Also Available For the Vision Pro

Prescription lenses are also available for the Vision Pro, as the headset does not accommodate glasses. Zeiss offers lens inserts, with reader versions priced at $99 and prescription versions at $149.

The Total Cost Of Ownership for the Vision Pro

When considering all these options, the total cost of ownership for the Vision Pro could reach up to $4,995. While users have the flexibility to choose which accessories to purchase, this information serves as a reminder that Apple’s latest product is a premium offering with a significant price tag. Although the Vision Pro has not been reviewed yet, potential buyers can stay informed by reading about the latest demo experiences.
