Africa Fellows in Education Program 2023/2024

The Africa Fellows in Education (AFE) Program, is a collaborative effort of the Global Education Analytics Institute (GEAI), and PEP. The program is designed for young motivated African Researchers who wish to work on educational improvement.

Africa Fellows in Education (AFE) Program, will have all participants join a two-year research and policy development fellowship that expenses them to trending research and analytical experiences, they will also have the opportunity to connect with international networks of researchers and policy advisers.

Benefits

The benefits include funding packages  stated below:

  • A $35K research (cash) grant.
  • A $25K for other expenses
  • The program covers the cost for Mentorship, study visits, conference travel, and in-country workshops

Application

The application involves a number of factors and requires applicants to express interest in the following ways:

  • Submission of a two-page statement of interest in the English language. The essay contains specific education problems In the applicant’s home country and how such a problem could be scientifically evaluated using quantitative methods
  • An updated CV with at least two (2) referees to be contacted by the selection committee.
  • All applications should be submitted via the PEP portal before the deadline of 21st of May 2023.

Apply following the steps below:

  • Go to the PEP website and Register by entering all the required information. Note that your profile will be activated within 24 hours.
  • After activating your PEP account, click on the Login button to proceed
  • You will need to Complete your profile by clicking on your name which can be located at the top right side of your PEP account page.
  • Click on “Submit a proposal” to proceed
  • Upon successful registration, ensure that your submission was successful, then go back to your PEP account and click on “My Projects”.
  • Choose your preferred project and go to “Documents” to find or replace/update your document.

Requirements for the Africa Fellows in Education Program 2023/2024

To be eligible to participate in the Africa Fellows in Education Program, Applicants must meet the criteria below:

  • Is a Citizen of a Sub-Saharan African country
  • Should have an MA or Ph.D. degree, preferably in the following areas; Economics, education policy, social/public policy, development studies, or international development
  • Have a strong focus on education.
  • A Ph.D. degree is not mandatory, however, GEAI welcomes new Ph.D. graduates to receive mentorship and training to emerge good researchers.
  • Applicants must be proficient in quantitative data analysis (have strong knowledge of data analysis software such as R and Stata)
  • Prospective Candidates should not be older than 35 years old
  • He or She is expected to show interest in education policy research and analysis
  • Be affiliated with a research or higher education institution in a Sub-Saharan African country, and
  • Qualified females are strongly encouraged to apply.
