Great News! Applications are ongoing for the Access Bank ART X Prize 2023. The Access ART X Prize is awarded to early-career artists from Africa and its Diaspora with opportunities to develop their practices, with the aim to launching them to be successful globally
The awards was previously offered to only Nigerian emerging artists, but this edition of the awards has been adjusted to include an additional award that is open to emerging artists from all of Africa and its Diaspora.
Access Bank ART X Prize
This evolvement was done in a bid to buttress sustainable careers for a wider range of artists. Through this awards, early-career artists from Africa and its Diaspora will have the opportunities to develop their practices, with the intention of setting them up for the highest levels of success on the global stage.

The Access ART X Prize 2023 will have one artist selected from Nigeria, who will undergo a residency at Gasworks London. Additionally, an artist from Africa and its Diaspora will be selected to undergo a residency at Yinka Shonibare’s G.A.S. Foundation in Lagos.
Meanwhile, Both Selected artists will be granted exhibitions at the ART X Lagos fair in 2023 and will be given a grants amount of $10,000 for their exhibition.

Eligibility Criteria for Access Bank ART X Prize
The ART X Prize was Formerly Designed only for Nigerian emerging artists, but the 2023 edition accommodates additional award that is open to emerging artists from all of Africa and its Diaspora
Documents Required for Application
The following documents will be required during the application process for Access Bank ART X Prize:
- The first document here is the ARTIST’S BIO: Upload a PDF that contains a description or summary of your life, career and practice leading up to the present moment and
- Educational background, recent exhibitions or career highlights, relevant biographical information with an overview of your artistic practice and interests
- Two references with the following details: full name, position/title, email address and phone number, 3 pages maximum
- Submit a PDF of not more than 200MB containing: a selection of 10 works (images, video links, etc.) as well as a numbered list of the corresponding works. The submitted list must include the Title, Date, Media, Dimensions (Height x Width x Depth, if applicable) or Duration of each work.
- Fill in the caption information which should read as follows: FirstName, LastName, Title, Year. For example, Femi Ogunji, Starlight, 2022.
- Kindly upload a PDF with a statement on how as a Nigerian or African/Diasporan Participant, you will maximize either the Gasworks London UK or the Yinka Shonibare GAS Foundation NG residency opportunity respectively, if selected.
- Add a summary of your connection to Africa (descent, heritage, lineage or other, etc). On a Maximum Length of 300 words.
