Applications are currently ongoing for the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) Program DRC 2023/2024. The Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) provides aspiring women entrepreneurs with the necessary knowledge, connections, and resources to successfully launch and grow their businesses.
AWE employs a hybrid approach, combining an online platform called DreamBuilder (created through a collaboration between Arizona State University’s Thunderbird School of Global Management and Freeport-McMoRan, a global copper mining company) with in-person mentoring and facilitation.
Academy For Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) Program DRC 2023/2024
Through AWE, participants acquire essential business skills and engage in class discussions led by experienced implementers, local mentors, and U.S. Exchange Alumni. Collaborations with local NGOs, universities, and chambers of commerce offer women the opportunity to enhance their newfound business skills and connect with other professionals through activities like speed mentoring sessions and entrepreneurship fairs.
Program Goal
- Offer women the necessary resources to participate in U.S.-style online education that is guided by facilitators and localized by local women business leaders.
- Cultivate networks that assist participants in accessing peer-to-peer mentoring, potential business partnerships, and opportunities to scale their businesses both locally and in the United States.
- Grant access to a diverse array of opportunities specifically designed to empower women economically, thereby magnifying the impact of their involvement.
Benefit
- Participants who thrive in the program will be given access to seed funding (specifically awarded to the winners of the business plan competition), in addition to more training prospects at both the Harvard Business School located in the United States and South Africa.
Eligibility Criteria
- The application form needs to be completed in the English language.
- Candidates are required to have proficiency in speaking and reading English as the curriculum is in English.
- Female entrepreneurs are encouraged to apply.
- Candidates’ age must be between 25 and 45 years.
- Candidates must possess an email account.
