World Population Day

World Population Day is observed to increase the world’s knowledge of different population issues, like the importance of family planning, gender equality, poverty, maternal health, and human rights. Dr. K.C. Zachariah, who worked as a Senior Demographer at the World Bank, proposed the day when the population reached five billion.

On World Population Day, different advocates from around the world will reach out to leaders, policymakers, grassroots organizers, institutions, and others to help make reproductive health and rights a reality for all. However, in November 2020, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), with the governments of Kenya and Denmark, organized a high-level conference in Nairobi to quicken efforts to achieve these unmet goals.
