Brief Background of WMI
The Wells Mountain Initiative (WMI) is an annual Program designed for students from developing countries. WMI is a charity foundation located in Bristol, Vermont, USA, and has been approved under the United States Internal Revenue Service.
The Wells Mountain Initiative (WMI) seeks to bring about social change through education and community building by providing bright young people in the developing world with student scholarships and skills training, as well as building a network of grassroots leaders who are catalyzing community transformation.
The WMI provides support annually to students as they pursue various educational objectives, the support is provided for students at the following level; university, polytechnic, and trade school). The Financial coverage or support offered covers the tuition and school fees and directly related expenses such as books and supplies.
Please note that the WMI scholarship does not always cover the full cost of tuition and associated educational expenses.
How to Apply for Wells Mountain Initiative – WMI Scholars Program 2023?
You can apply for the WMI Scholars Program 2023 in two ways: Online, or by mailing in a completed application packet to the office.
Online Application

- Complete with accurate information and upload documents. Online application is preferred as it will provide you with the opportunity to save your work and return it multiple times.

Application via Mail-in
For the Mail-in application, You will need to print the 2023 application form, and ensure its clearly complete and attached with all required supporting documents before sending it.
Eligibility Criteria for Wells Mountain Initiative (WMI) Scholars Program 2023
Interested candidates must fulfill the requirements below:
- Must be a student (male or female) from a developing country
- Applicants must have successfully completed secondary education, with good to excellent grades
- Should be 35 years or below on March 1, 2023
- Must be willing to study in his or her country or another country in the developing world
- Currently pursuing his or her first bachelor’s degree or diploma
- Candidates will be enrolled in a program of study that will benefit the community and/or contributes to the continued growth and advancement of his or her home country
- Should have Planned to live and work in his or her own country after graduation
- Must be seen to have shown commitments to giving back and has volunteered prior to applying
- Candidates may have some other funds available for his or her education, but are not allowed to pursue his or her tertiary degree without financial assistance
Document Requirement:
The WMI Scholars Program requires Applicants to present the following documents:
- A Clear personal photo
- An Essay on which topic is stated on the application form
- The 2023 application form
- Personal essay statement
- Two recommendation letters
- Official transcript (Grades from secondary school) with the grading key to interpret the secondary school grades
- The Official transcript (Grades from tertiary studies)
- National exam official results and the grading key to interpret scores
