Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) poses a significant global health threat, with effective communication playing a crucial role in combating this issue. The Regional AMR Champion Journalist and Media House Awards aim to recognize journalists and media organizations that have exhibited distinction in their reporting, investigative journalism, storytelling, and advocacy efforts about AMR.

  • All winners will be awarded a specially crafted trophy or plaque representing the collaboration. Between the Quadripartite (FAO, UNEP, WOAH, WHO) and the African Union. They will also receive a monetary prize as part of their recognition.
  • Furthermore, the winners will be allowed to exhibit their work during the physical commemoration of the 2023 World AMR Awareness Week. Which will take place in Harare, Zimbabwe, from November 18 to 24th, 2023. All costs associated with this trip will be completely taken care of.

 Eligibility Criteria

Follow the steps below:

  • The award is open to Journalists and media organizations (including private/commercial radio, community radio, television, print media, and online media) operating within the African region are eligible.
  • Entries must have been published or broadcast between January 1, 2022, and September 30, 2023.
  • Submissions can include various media formats such as articles, news reports, TV or radio segments, documentaries, podcasts, or online multimedia content.

Supporting Materials

The submission requirements are as follows:

  • Press cuttings or Jpegs should be A4 in size.
  • Slide show images should include videos and images that represent your entry. These will not be used for judging but may be included in a slide show presentation during the awards ceremony to inform the audience about the entries.
  • The deadline for entry submissions is October 30, 2023, at 2 PM GMT.
  • Any entries submitted after the specified date and time will not be deemed valid. The deadline is non-negotiable and must be adhered to.

Selection Criteria

The judges will be evaluating the entries based on the following criteria:

  • Analytical reporting
  • Use of factual information in reporting
  • The impact of the reporting, including whether it sparked discussion or debate
  • Any policy action or improvement in service resulting from the reporting
  • The entry should demonstrate independence, impartiality, coherence, simplicity, clarity, and a well-developed plot.
  • The article or program should also adhere to ethical standards.
