The life sciences arm of Google’s parent company Alphabet, Verily, is at the moment planning to eliminate 15% of its workforce or close to 200 jobs rather. The cuts which as you should know will include some programs are aimed at making the arm more efficient according to a blog post on Wednesday by the company.

Verily’s Statement Regarding the Development

“We are making changes that refine our strategy, prioritize our product portfolio and simplify our operating model,” Verily’s chief executive officer, Stephen Gillett stated in the blog post. “We will advance fewer initiatives with greater resources.”

Some of the programs that are being reportedly cut off are inclusive of Verily Value Suite which is a health system analysis tool as well as early-stage programs that are focused on drug delivery for remote patient monitoring for heart failure and microneedles.

Other Departments of Google to Be Affected By Workforce Cut

The cut by Verily is coming as Intrinsic which is the robotics effort of Alphabet is cutting off 40 positions or about 17% rather of its workforce as per a report on Wednesday by The Information.

The said layoffs by Google are a reflection of the turbulence the tech industry as a whole is currently going through. Other big tech companies such as Twitter, Microsoft, Amazon, and Meta have all cut off thousands of workers in more recent months.
