The University of California GloCal Health Fellowship is a 12-month mentorship research for investigators who are looking to study diseases and conditions in developing countries.

University of California GloCal Health Fellowship

The GloCal Health Fellowship is designed for US doctoral students, professional students and postdoctoral fellows, as well as foreign postdoctoral fellows from affiliated international sites in low- and middle-income countries.

The Ideal candidates for this Fellowship are expected to propose research in areas such as, but not limited to the following fields:

  • Social and behavioral science
  • Nutrition
  • Environment
  • Medicine
  • Public health
  • Nursing
  • Veterinary and basic sciences

Benefits of University of California GloCal Health Fellowship 2023/2024

The GloCal Health Fellowships is scheduled to commence annually in July, and will provide the following benefits to Successfully selected applicants:

  • Monthly Support Stipends for 12 consecutive months
  • A $15,000 for Research funding
  • The fellowship covers the Travel costs to and from the international field site
  • Support for online courses
  • An orientation for a week on the National Institutes of Health campus in Washington, D.C.

In applying for the GloCal Health Fellowship:

Eligibility Criteria for University of California GloCal Health Fellowship 2023/2024

  • Only Applicants with an affiliation with one of the 20 GloCal international sites are eligible to apply
  • You can apply If you are from a UC campus not part of the GloCal consortium. You must also contact a mentor from one of the four consortium campuses.
  • You can apply if you have completed your basic science courses and one year of clinical training before you begin the fellowship.
  • Undergraduate or Master’s level students are not allowed to apply for this fellowship.
  • Eligible fellows must be citizens of the United States or its territories, or persons lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence,
  • You must have demonstrated interest in, and statement of commitment to, a career in global health research.
  • You must have support from two committed faculty mentors when they apply.
