United Nations Academic Impact Internship 2023 aims to harness the potential of higher education institutions to contribute to the realization of various United Nations objectives, such as human rights, education, sustainability, and conflict resolution.

UNAI Duration and Structure

The UNAI internship spans a minimum of four months, with the possibility of an extension of up to six months, depending on the Unit’s needs and the candidate’s availability.

Although unpaid, the internship offers invaluable experience, allowing interns to work full-time (35 hours per week) under the guidance of a staff member within their designated office.

Flexibility in Work Arrangements

Interns have the flexibility to work remotely, in a hybrid model, or fully in-person at the UN Headquarters in New York, United States. For hybrid arrangements, a minimum of two office days per week is in need. This adaptability enables interns to collaborate effectively and gain exposure to various work environments.

UNAI’s Role

The United Nations Academic Impact initiative emphasizes collaboration between higher education institutions and the United Nations to achieve shared goals.

This includes advocating for human rights, expanding access to education, promoting sustainability, and facilitating conflict resolution.

Interns Responsibilities

Interns will be under the supervision of the Programme Manager and will contribute to various tasks, such as:

  • Thematic Research: Conduct internet research on UNAI principles, including Sustainable Development Goals, Human Rights, and Global Citizenship Education.
  • Web Content: Drafting, formatting, editing, and posting original website content, including graphics, photos, and videos.
  • Social Media: Crafting engaging social media content for UNAI’s Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn platforms.
  • Event Coordination: Assisting in the planning and organization of lectures and events, including speaker research and promotional material preparation.
  • Database Management: Maintaining UNAI databases to ensure accurate and organized information.
  • Office Support: Providing general office assistance, including drafting correspondence, organizing files, and scheduling meetings.

Qualifications

To be eligible for the United Nations Academic Impact Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Currently enrolled in or already completed a graduate school program
  • Be enroll in or completed the final academic year of a first university degree program
  • Applicants are expected to have Proficiency in standard software applications.
  • Be interested in the United Nations’ work
  • Be able to interact effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Skills in writing, social media, and multimedia production are highly desirable.
