Steam is Bringing in Support for Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons

The Nintendo Switch Joy-Con support is at the top of the very short list of changes that are on the Steam Client Beta Community Update Post for August. The Post does not only confirm that Nintendo Switch Joy-Con support has been added, it notes that the support is for Joy-Cons “both individually as a mini-gamepad and combined into pairs”.

Currently, the support can only be accessed in Steam Client Beta. To opt right into it, you can do that in the ‘Account’ section of the steam settings menu. Since the beta was launched on August 4, Valve has re-released it on August 5, hopefully smoothing out any problems that were being experienced by all those trying to connect the controllers.

Great News

Of course, it is not every Nintendo Switch owner that prefers the petite, fiddly Joy-Cons. If you happen to fall right into that camp, or you are just trying to figure out how to fix Joy-con drift at the moment, Then you would be happy to know that the more substantial Nintendo Switch Pro controller got steam support back in the year 2018.

Recently, as a matter of fact, in June, Valve decided to add support for the collection of Nintendo Switch Online classic controllers to the Steam beta right before pushing it right into the main steam client in July. This collection entails NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, and the Nintendo 64 wireless controllers. The most recent beta release notes that it came with “Improved support” for these controllers also.

Steam Support for a Range Controller

Altogether, this simply means that Steam now has a pretty comprehensive system of support for its official range of Nintendo Switch controllers. If Nintendo controller support is of absolutely no interest to you, though, Steam’s controller support is wide-ranging and it also includes the DualSense Wireless controller and the Xbox Elite wireless controller among others.
