Fully funded Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO) Summer Training Programme 2024

Applications are now being accepted for the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO) Summer Training Programme 2024. This program, held at the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO; Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Oncológicas) in Madrid, Spain, offers research training opportunities to students of all nationalities interested in pursuing a career in Biomedicine and Life Sciences during the summer.

In 2024, up to 4 summer training positions will be awarded to university students from any country studying Biomedical & Life Sciences or related fields. The program will run from June 24 to August 16 (8 weeks) and will entail 300 working hours.

Participants must fully commit to the program, dedicating 37.5 hours per week, and are required to engage in all scheduled activities. Each student will work under the supervision of a group/section/unit leader or a member of the research group, attending weekly seminars conducted by CNIO faculty members and researchers.

After the program, students will present their research results in a special session.

Benefits of Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO) Summer Training Programme 

  • CNIO will cover the student’s travel expenses: one return ticket from the student’s hometown to Madrid.
  • Breakfasts and lunches at the centre’s cafeteria will be subsidized during the training program.
  • Participants will be covered by personal accident insurance throughout their stay at CNIO.
  • Citizens from countries not issuing the European Health Card (EHC) will receive private health insurance and repatriation insurance unless already covered by valid health insurance during the entire summer stay.
  • Participation in the program does not entail any contractual agreement between selected candidates and CNIO.
  • Upon completion, CNIO will issue a certificate indicating the area of training.

Eligibility

  • Must have completed at least 2/3 of the total credit points required for a Life Sciences or Biomedicine-related undergraduate degree.
  • Must maintain undergraduate student status throughout the entire summer program (June 24 to August 16, 2024).
  • Must have an excellent academic record with a Grade Point Average (GPA) above 0.75.
  • Must have a good command of English.
  • Must be available from June 24 to August 16, 2024, for the training program.

Application Requirements 

Shortlisted candidates will be required to email the following documents to [email protected]:

  • Two letters of recommendation.
  • Copy of an official Transcript of Records, Academic Transcript, or Certification, showing the number of credits passed.
  • Copy of National Identity Card or Passport.
  • Proof of valid health insurance for the entire summer stay.
  • Citizens from countries issuing the European Health Card (EHC), including Spanish nationals, must present this documentation.
