This competition invites you to capture captivating moments that showcase the transformative power of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) among young people aged 15 to 29.
The theme of the 2023 edition of this competition is “Skilling Youth for the Future,” and the goal is to highlight how TVET is shaping the skills and potential of the next generation.
Skills in Action Photo Competition 2023
The Skills in Action Photo competition calls for photos that revolve around three key areas, all of which play a pivotal role in preparing the youth for what lies ahead. These include:
- TVET for a Sustainable Future: Showcase the convergence of skills and environmental consciousness through photos that spotlight green jobs and sustainability-oriented skills.
- Skills for a Digitalized World: Capture the essence of the digital age by highlighting the integration of technology into training and work within the TVET sphere.
- Inclusive TVET: Shed light on the importance of equal access to quality TVET for everyone, irrespective of gender, ethnicity, nationality, or disability.
The UNESCO-UNEVOC International Centre
The UNESCO-UNEVOC International Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training is a part of the UNESCO family, working dedicatedly in the realm of education. It’s the singular organization that advances the United Nations’ mandate through TVET, contributing to peace, poverty alleviation, and sustainable development.
About UNEVOC
The roots of UNEVOC trace back to 1989 when the United Nations embraced the Convention on Technical and Vocational Education. Recognizing TVET’s potential to foster global understanding and harmony, an international project on technical and vocational education was initiated, paving the way for the UNEVOC Network’s official launch in 1992.
Fast forward to 1999, and the UNESCO General Conference brought forth a resolution to establish an international center for TVET. Germany stepped up to host the center in Bonn, and in April 2002, the inauguration ceremony marked the beginning of a significant chapter. Over time, Bonn’s UN presence expanded to over 20 organizations and nearly 1,000 dedicated staff members.
Who’s Eligible?
The doors of this competition are open to all photography enthusiasts who meet these criteria:
- Age: 18 years minimum.
- Applicants in need own the copyright of the photo entry/entries.
- Whose photos illuminate the innovative aspects of technical and vocational education and training (TVET).
Do’s and Don’ts
For a successful submission, remember these dos and don’ts:
Do’s:
- Choose thematic areas that align with the competition’s themes to ensure your entry is relevant.
- Use a high-resolution camera capable of producing images with a minimum of 3000 pixels on the longest side, set at 300 DPI/PPI.
- Secure consent from individuals in your photos, especially if a person is the focus.
- Feel free to make minor edits to your photo, as long as you specify these in the submission form.
Don’ts:
- Avoid submitting photo collages.
- Refrain from adding watermarks, signatures, or overlays to your picture.
- Ensure your photos directly relate to the thematic areas mentioned earlier.

The effort you put into your photographs could lead to incredible rewards:
- First Prize: $750
- Second Prize: $500
- Third Prize: $350
- In addition to cash rewards, winners and finalists will receive certificates, and their work will be showcased on UNESCO’s website and across various social media platforms.
- Your submissions could also become a part of UNESCO’s future media campaigns, publications, and promotional materials.

Here’s how you can get your photos in the running:
Give each photo a compelling title and a brief description (maximum 75 words) that offers context.
- Rename each photo as follows: Lastname_Firstname_title (jpeg)
- Complete and download the submission form at https://unevoc.unesco.org saving it as Lastname_Firstname_SAPC23.docx.
- Make sure to agree with the Terms and Conditions outlined in the form.
- The original photo including the form, should be sent to: skills(at)unesco.org
- Applicants whose entries are too large for email should consider using cloud storage services like WeTransfer.
