Overclocked AMD RX 7900 XTX Reportedly Matches RTX 4090 Performance

TechPowerUp in a quite stunning move has now managed to overclock and AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX to a point where it can now match the Nvidia RTX 4090 in the benchmark of the demanding cyberpunk 2077.

What This Means for Nvidia

Well, we should not get carried away: on paper, a $999 GPU going head to head with a $1,599 card in gaming performance is a really massive loss for Nvidia on paper. But however, this is just one test as TechPowerUp also found out that the overclocked RX 7900 XTX was not able to get to the same performance as the RTX 4090 in other benchmarks, although performance was improved dramatically.

Clock Speed Issues Have Been Reported With the Navi 31 Die

Still very much impressed with it so far and not really entirely unexpected. There however have been clock speed issues reported with the Navi 31 die that powers the RX 7900 XTX, which allegedly limits its performance kind of and it is something that AMD could address with future driver updates.

AMD Flagship GPU Is Not Making Use Of 100% of Its Available Power at the Moment

It’s however not going to eclipse the 4090 which is set to be getting new drivers of its own, but it’s however worth bearing in mind that the AMD flagship GPU is not making use of 100% of its available power at the moment. The mighty 3.2GHz overclock of TechPowerUp coaxes a lot more graphical grunt right out of the card.
