The Open Doors Postgraduate Scholarship 2023 is an annual program organized by The Association of Global Universities, in collaboration with the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.

The goal of this program is to bring in talented foreign students who would like to pursue postgraduate degree (Master’s) programs in Russia for free.

Subsequently, those who emerge winners of the Open Doors competition are granted free early admission at any Russian university, without entrance examinations and with tuition fees covered by the Russian Federation.

Additionally, Winners of this competition will be able to enroll in a program using a single-window system, and will be allowed to choose any of Russian universities. Amazingly, the language of instruction is English or Russian depending on the chosen program and the university.

About Open Doors – Russian Scholarship Project

There are two tracks to the to Olympiad for prospective Master’s and doctoral students. The program is held in two rounds for the Master’s track and in three rounds for the doctoral track. The competition of portfolios is the first round while the second round is a problem-solving challenge.

Third round of the Olympiad has to do with the selection of a prospective research supervisor for the chosen doctoral program and an interview with him/her.

International students having any Nationality can apply for this competition including stateless persons, compatriots living abroad, having a Bachelor’s degree or completing a Bachelor degree program in the year of the Olympiad for the Master’s track and having a Master’s or Specialist’s degree for the doctoral track in the year of the Olympiad.

Participants will have their tuition fee paid by the Russian Federation.
Costs for travel and accommodation costs, insurance and personal expenses are to be covered by the participants

It is Important to note that foreign students are currently allowed to enter Russia, however, each university has its own guidelines on how exactly to do it.

Eligibility Criteria for Open Doors Postgraduate Scholarship Qualification

The Olympiad is open to foreigners as well as compatriots permanently residing abroad.
The Master’s track Recipients must have a Bachelor’s or specialist’s degree or be completing an appropriate level of education in 2022.
Doctoral track Participants will need a specialist’s or a master’s degree.
A mandatory pass of a short test in each of your selected subject areas.
Failure to pass this test in five attempts, you won’t be able to start filling in your portfolio and participate in the Olympiad.
The Master’s and Doctoral tracks include 2 rounds that are held online with the first round being a portfolio competition.
Subsequently, those who have been successfully selected after the evaluation of the portfolios are invited to take part in the second round
For a successful interviews, the participant will choose a research advisor from among those who gave them a pass.

What is the meaning of ‘Subject’?

This is the field of knowledge that covers groups of program tracks a Master’s student can follow.

What am I to do if I win?

The First thing is to select a program in the Subject you are a winner in, then choose one or several universities that offer programs in this track.

What will be my Language of Study?

Upon confirming your proficiency in English or Russian, you can study in that language. In other for you to improve your Russian, you will be offered a Russian language preparatory course.

Am I required to pay a tuition fee?

No! Your tuition fee are covered by the Russian Federation. You only cater for your travel and accommodation costs, insurance and personal expenses.

Am I allowed to enroll in any program I want?

Indicated in your registered form, you will be enrolled in a specialization from which you can choose any program applicable for foreign students.

Are there Bachelor degree scholarships?

The competition is limited to Individuals having a Bachelor’s degree in the year of the Olympiad for the Master’s track and possessing a Master’s degree for the doctoral track in the year of the Olympiad.
