Niantic’s Virtual AR Pet Game Launches On May 9

The developer of the Pokémon Go game, Niantic has now flexed into a couple of unusual social gaming experiments on smartphones, some of them with walking and Pikmin, and some with sleep. A new AR game known as Peridot which casts a virtual pet companion into the real world making use of your phone is set to arrive on May 9 and in the process promising some kind of social connectivity via pet ownership.

Peridot Was Announced Last Year

Peridot originally was announced in the previous year and it is one of the company’s most original AR game efforts. For the now I haven’t tried the game but the persistent virtual pet experience looks way more casual than many of Niantic’s other more game-like apps. And as the company continues to explore augmented reality social applications and future AR glasses, it also could be an app that explores social connection in AR deeply.

Peridot as you should know involves raising a “genetically unique” Dot which is the name of these magical and very colorful pets that can grow and learn and even interact with the world and many other people. And it seems that you can eventually create new Dots. The pets will reportedly enter the phases of being a teenager and an adult. Whether the pets die or not, is still unknown.

Peridot Will Be Available on both iOS And Android

It all seems whimsical and fascinating, and even at the least promises to be the most interesting virtual pet game invented since Tamagotchi. Peridot according to reports will be available on both iOS and Android very much like many other Niantic games. And hopefully, we will get to be checking it out soon.
