At the beginning of this week, Netflix announced that the new plan that is also an ad-free mobile plan for android users will give them the option to sign up for an account on the service without having to add any payment information. They will however need to submit an email address to create an account and also verify they are 18 years and older.

The End Game of This Netflix Plan

Well, a plan and option like this always have an end game. And the end game here is that Netflix hopes that users will upgrade to a paid subscription plan. A spokesperson from Netflix recently confirmed that this is the first time the platform has offered a free tier plan. Close to a quarter of its content will be included in this free plan. And also users on this plan will be able to stream complete seasons of series and shows.

The company says it hopes that users that enjoy making use of the service eventually will upgrade to one of the paid subscriptions offered and it also supports streaming on laptops and TVs. This is not the first time Netflix is experimenting with a free-to-stream plan in order to attract new customers. Netflix has previously made some of its services available for free on YouTube.

The company has once tried out a free-to-watch portal in YouTube with a small portion of its titles after axing its free trial period in the US permanently. Another service and platform that has axed its free trial period is HBO max. The latter company killed its free trial period ahead of its wonder woman 1984 day and date release on the service.

The free android plan from Netflix in Kenya was launched on Monday and will continue rolling out the service to other parts in the coming weeks.
