Google Maps Update Brings Eco-Friendly Routing Features to the Platform

The Google maps app is now expanding its eco-friendly route options and features to calculate both fuel and energy costs based on the types of vehicles driven by people in the coming weeks, the company in a blog post said on Tuesday.

This very feature will let people select the type of vehicle that they are driving whether it is diesel, gas, or electric on maps and then get an estimate on just how much fuel or energy will be consumed on a given route. And if the route that’s most fuel-efficient does not happen to be the fastest, people can select the faster one instead. This very feature is however limited to mobile.

Google Introduced Eco-Friendly Routes Last Year

Last year, eco-friendly routes were introduced, allowing people to select the drive that was the most fuel efficient. Tech Company, Google is now expanding this very feature to 40 other countries in Europe such as Ireland, France, Spain, Poland, and the UK. Google earlier this year added a traffic prediction widget to android phones that allows people to see the current traffic conditions right on their home screen.

Apple Said That It Is Making Plans to Be Carbon Neutral by the Year 2030

Another company Apple said that it is making plans to be carbon neutral by the year 2030 and in 2020 stopped shipping phones with chargers saying that it wants to double down on e-waste. And while all these carbon targets are big and ambitious, some however have pointed to the excessive usage of renewable energy certificates or power purchase agreements in a bid to buy clean energy credits that offset dirty emissions.
