The Goi Peace Foundation International essay contest aims to engage and empower young people worldwide in promoting peace and sustainable development. It also encourages society to draw inspiration from the perspectives of youth and contemplate ways in which each individual can contribute to positive global change.

Theme

My Experience of Overcoming Conflict”

“Conflicts arise due to various factors, such as differing opinions and values. Have you ever successfully resolved a conflict you were part of? What lessons did you take away from that experience, and how do you intend to apply them in your personal life and society?”

 Eligibility Requirements

  • Essays can be submitted by individuals up to 25 years old (as of June 15, 2024) in one of the designated age categories: a) Children (ages up to 14) and b) Youth (ages 15 – 25).
  • The essays should not exceed 700 words in English or French, or 1600 characters in Japanese. They should be typed, with the author’s name, email address, and essay title at the top of the first page. These details are not included in the word count limit.
  • There are no strict rules regarding formatting (e.g., font style, size, line spacing, etc.), but essays must be submitted in either MS Word (DOC/DOCX) or PDF format.
  • Teachers and youth directors have the option to submit a collection of essays from their class or group by creating an ‘account for school/organization entrant’ on the online registration page.
  • The essays must be original and unpublished, and entries containing plagiarized or generative AI (such as ChatGPT) content will be disqualified.
  • Each essay must be written by one individual, and co-authored essays will not be accepted.

 Awards

The Children’s and Youth categories will each offer the following award:

  • The First prize includes a certificate, 100,000 Yen (around US$660 in Feb. 2024), and a gift for one participant.
  • The second prize consists of a certificate, 50,000 Yen (approximately US$330 as of Feb. 2024), and a gift for three participants.
  • 3rd Prize: Certificate and a gift for 5 entrants
  • Honorable Mention: Certificate and a gift for 25 entrants
  • Winners of the 1st to 3rd prizes will be invited to the online Winners Gathering
  • Additional awards such as the Best School Award and School Incentive Award will be presented where applicable.

Submission Process For The Goi Peace Foundation International Essay Contest For Young People 2024

All submissions must be made through the online registration page. Essays sent via postal mail or email will not be considered. Teachers and youth directors can submit a group of essays by creating an account on the online registration page. Just one person only is allowed to submit one entry.
