Epic Games recruits the designer of Kratos of God of War as a new creative executive for Fortnite. Remember that the creative director of Fortnite just retired a couple of days ago. And now the studio has not wasted any time in selecting a successor and now they have their man.
Epic Games Recruits New Creative Executive
Charlie Wen, the person who previously designed Kratos from the God of War series, has now been appointed as Chief Creative Officer at Epic Games.
Wen, who in question also spearheaded the Visual Development of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for more than five years, replaces Donald Mustard, the head of Fortnite‘s story in the said position. The designer made the announcement on Twitter reportedly stating: “Excited to share that I embarked on a new adventure as Chief Creative Officer (CCO) of Epic Games”. He continues, “Deeply grateful to everyone who has come alongside me thus far. The journey ahead promises to be truly epic!”
The post in question also includes a Fortnite image that promises “new journeys ahead” for the game, although it still remains to be seen as to exactly how the creative visual talents of Wen will influence the highly popular battle royale shooter. Mustard, who prior to this was in the role since 2016, helped to shape the narrative as well as character designs of the game.
Significant Industry Contributions of Charlie Wen
One of the most significant industry contributions of Charlie Wen was as the original visual concept artist for Kratos from God of War, reportedly designing not only the man himself – initially drawn on a napkin of all things – but also the Blades of Chaos, as well. In a PlayStation Blog post that was meant to celebrate Santa Monica Studio’s 20th anniversary, he reportedly stated that “After going through several iterations of the main character, I was having a bit more clarity of who Kratos was, and came prepared for a lunch/design session — armed with multiple pens, even a brush pen. Then, as ideas started to flow, I realized I had no sketchbook — good thing the restaurant had napkins”.

Wen would then co-found the Visual Development of Marvel Studios where he reportedly created many of the modernized character designs for movies like Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, The Avengers, as well as The Guardians of the Galaxy, among many others. Many of these mentioned characters have also been featured in Fortnite in some form, as well.
