The reported employee that organized the Trans walkout fired by Netflix. This is coming days after Trans employees in the company threatened to stage a walkout. A group led by an employee within the company was organizing a walkout on the 20th of October.
Employee That Organized the Trans Walkout Fired By Netflix
Netflix believes that the employee and the reported group leaked metrics about the Dave Chappelle special to the press. Reports claim that the employee is black and currently pregnant. The employee however asked not to be named for fear of online harassment.
After Netflix’s handling of the Dave Chappelle special, the closer, trans employees in the company have been encouraging others and allies to stage out a walkout and protest. When asked for a story from major news platforms and websites, the employee declined to speak or make any type of statement.
In an interview with the verge, a former Netflix employee said “all these white people are going around talking to the press and speaking publicly on Twitter and the only person who gets fired is the black person who was quiet the entire time. That’s absurd and thus further shows that black Trans people are the ones being targeted in the conversation.”
The Reason the Employee Was Sacked By Netflix
While a former worker during an interview alleged that because the Trans person in question was black and that was why she was fired. The metrics she leaked contained how much was paid by Netflix for Dave Chappelle’s special, the closer and also how many the show reached. After the employee shared the leaks to employees internally, they spoke out against the leaks worrying that it might hurt the walkout.
Leaking of internal documents and data is something that is very unlikely and unusual at Netflix. The company is one that has always prided itself on privacy and transparency. And for the tradition to thrive, employees have been told to keep Netflix data internal.
What Netflix Had To Say about the Dismissal of the Employee
In an official statement, a spokesperson of Netflix confirmed the employee’s dismissal. He said “we have let go of an employee for sharing confidential, commercially sensitive information outside the company…We understand this employee may have been motivated by disappointment and hurt with Netflix, but maintaining a culture of trust and transparency is core to our company.”
In recent weeks, there have been grave controversy surrounding the closer. The special has been criticized by Trans activists for being transphobic. A Tran’s software engineer known as terra field was suspended by the company who posted a viral tweet regarding the controversy, for attending a director-level meeting that she wasn’t invited to. However, Terran Field has been reinstated. And at the moment, Netflix is now sending employees details regarding the meetings that they are allowed to attend.
