EA Makes Laura Miele COO, Making Her One of the Most Powerful Women in the Gaming Industry
EA announced on Thursday that it is promoting its chief studio officer Laura Miele to chief operating officer. This very change and promotion is a big one for her. She already holds a significant leadership position in the company previously overseeing 25 different studios.
This new role will give Miele an oversight over the company. And this will probably make her one of the most powerful women in the gaming industry, one that sees few female executives, fewer in the C-suite where the executives there are often in charge of HR or finance and now the company’s products.
Following scandals over a toxic culture and environment that includes sexual harassment and misconduct, Ubisoft made Virginie Hass its chief studios operating officer last august. Miele has previously joined the electronics arts (EA) company in 1996 and has since then served the company as its chief studio’s officer since April 2018. In July, The Verge was able to speak with Miele where she discussed how the pandemic has changed the development at EA. And according to an SEC filing (PDF), she will start the role in the next few months.

The company also announced that the chief financial officer of Blake Jorgensen will be leaving the company. He is expected to leave the company in 2022. A replacement for him will be brought in immediately. Chris Bruzzo on the other hand who is the company’s previous executive vice president of marketing, positive play, and commercial will then become the company’s chief experience officer.
