D-Prize is in search of entrepreneurs who can create innovative non-profit or social ventures with the goal of distributing existing poverty solutions on a large scale; potentially reaching thousands, or even millions, of people. They have identified numerous products and services that have been proven to alleviate poverty and are now challenging entrepreneurs to come up with distribution strategies to make these solutions accessible to those in need.

In the current year, they are aiming to provide funding to more than thirty teams, with each team receiving up to $20,000 in seed capital. This funding will enable them to launch a pilot program and test their ideas for their new ventures.

Challenges

Entrepreneurs who wish to participate are required to submit their proposals for a new organization that addresses one of the following Distribution Challenges:

Feel free to suggest your own challenge. D-Prize is particularly interested in distributing proven poverty solutions to those who require them. If you are aware of an extremely effective intervention that has credible evidence supporting it, you are encouraged to share the details and present your strategy for expanding its distribution.

Timeline For The Competition

  • The Global Competition will commence on September 4th, 2023.
  • The Early Submission Deadline is set for midnight PT (Pacific Time) on October 16th, 2023.
  • The Regular Submission Deadline is scheduled for midnight PT (Pacific Time) on November 5th, 2023.
  • An Extension Deadline has been granted, extending the submission deadline to midnight PT (Pacific Time) on November 26th, 2023.

Benefit

D-prize aims to provide financial support to the most promising teams by awarding them up to $20,000 USD. This monetary aid is intended to help these teams launch their new organization in areas where extreme poverty prevails.

Eligibility Criteria

  • D-Prize is open to individuals from any part of the world, regardless of their age or background. Many of their previous recipients did not have prior experience in launching businesses or securing funding.
  • They may consider funding existing organizations, but only if those organizations are distributing an intervention that already exists and if they require high-risk capital that cannot be obtained through current donors or revenue.
  • Existing organizations applying for D-Prize should have been operational for no longer than 18 months and should not have raised more than $30,000 in external funding.
  • D-Prize reviews applications that are submitted solely in English. However, it is not necessary for your English to be perfect, and mistakes in grammar or vocabulary will not be held against you. Their priority is simply to understand your idea.
  • They are looking for individuals who are willing to commit themselves full-time to their work.
  • The competition is open to various sectors and fields, including agriculture, energy, access to healthcare, clean water, livelihoods, and public services. They are interested in supporting the expansion of existing poverty interventions that have been proven to work.
