Africa Mobile Network Collaborates with Intelsat to Connect Madagascar

Africa Mobile Network (AMN) collaborates with satellite-based communications company Intelsat to connect cellular services to some 200,000 citizens in Madagascar for the first time. In the long run, the companies intend to link 500 locations so that residents, primarily in rural areas, may get broadband services.

By the end of March, preparations are in place to connect 120 sites, of which 65 are currently operating. At that point, 200,000 persons who had not previously had access to any network operator’s coverage will get access to telecommunication services.

Rural villages will have access to phone services thanks to a combination of AMN’s technologies and Intelsat’s satellite backhaul. Experts claim that since satellite and solar solutions are so widely available, no site is too distant, and AMN is dedicated to conquering even the most challenging logistical obstacles.

Madagascar Emerging Digital Market by the GSMA

With a Global Connectivity Index score of 32.5, Madagascar is classified as an emerging digital market by the GSMA. The Digital and Energy Connectivity for Inclusion in Madagascar initiative represents the government’s commitment to expanding access to digital services.

The project launched in 2023. Its main objective is to install infrastructure in areas with limited services. Getting to know the locals has been difficult because sixty percent of the thirty million people live in rural areas.

The majority of the places are hard to get to, and several are unreachable by the nation’s electrical infrastructure.
