Google Workspace Update Throws a Big Blow at Microsoft 365

The company has decided to announce a number of improvements to the way workspace users interact with Microsoft Office files, which includes much better notifications around file type and editing, hopefully bringing an end to overwriting and restoring content.

Just as explained in an Update blog post, going forward, Google Workspace users would see a number of new notifications and warnings if they launch the Microsoft Office Formatted file in Office editing mode.

Google Workspace and Office

Google stated that the notifications, that appear across Docs, Sheets, and Slides, would help explain the differences that the users would see and would even help them edit or restore the content.

Among the notifications is a new office-formatted alert to warn of compatibility details that would pop up throughout your whole time within a document, spreadsheet, or slide deck. These issues actually could escalate to more potential compatibility issues, or even mean some certain office features are available.

Another launching feature is the Pop-up alert that would pop up and allow the users to quickly view and then restore earlier versions of the document, spreadsheet, or slide deck. Users would also be able to view the version history and restore a specific edition of a document if required.

Google New Editing Notifications

Google stated that its new editing notifications would be enabled by default, and it would always be present when a user launches a Microsoft Office document.

This update is expected to be out already, and it would be made available to all Google Workspace customers, as well as legacy G Suite Basic and Business customers, and the users with personal accounts, within the next few weeks.

This is Google’s Latest Move as Google wants to build a narrow gap between itself and Microsoft Office.

Verdict

Recently, the company has revealed that users would now be able to benefit from the ability to edit Microsoft Office files within Google Workspace without any need for an internet connection, offering much greater functionality and boosting the efficiency of users everywhere.
