Before the pandemic came many years students have been enjoying the sweet and fun activities of the summer rising program each year. Most summer parents simply do not know what to do with their kids as there is no school. This is why The New York City DOE and NYCD have always planned to engage kids effectively every summer.
However, things took a drastic turn for the worst when the coronavirus pandemic came. But last year the program kicked off again and this year is the 2.0 phase of the program.

The summarising program is a program that is geared towards the entertainment, education, and exposure of kids to various fun activities during the summer. It is a program that has been going on yearly but it stopped during the Coronavirus pandemic. This program always takes place every summer when parents are tired of their kids and would simply give anything to send them away to school.
Summarizing provides a platform for kids to engage with their peers, and caring adults and have a community-wide experience during the summer. The program is simply to keep your kid engaged physically and mentally while you have the much-needed break you need. If your kid is dull and does not do well in school you will do your kid a big favor by sending him or her to this program.
There are so many benefits for kids that attend this program because it sparks joy, curiosity, and a love for learning students. The city of New York uses this program to focus on reimagining students learning journey to engage and prepare them for the future.
Who is Eligible to Participate
This program is simply for kindergarten students and also students with disabilities and the ones that are ready or willing to learn the English language. Students from both private and public schools can attend this program. Students in grades k-5, K- 6, k-7, and finally k-8 are all free to attend this free program.
The program is planning to extend its capacity to 110,000 students so as to ensure that children properly associate with seniors and other peers for maximum benefits and learning. The DOE and DYCD are also planning on giving employment to over 100,000 high school students between the ages of 14 to 24.
Summer Rising 2022 Date
The date of the program and the time all the activities are scheduled are as follows:
Grades Students K-5:
July 5-Aug. 19 — Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., followed by extended day enrichment until 6 p.m.
Grades Students 6-8:
- July 5-Aug. 12 – Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., followed by extended day enrichment until 6 p.m.
Students with 12-month IEPs (District 75):
- July 5-Aug. 12 — Monday to Friday from 8:10 a.m. to 2:40 p.m. (or a similar 6.5-hour day)
Students with 12-month IEPs (Districts 1-32 Extended School Year):
- July 5-Aug. 12 — Monday to Friday from 8:10 a.m. to 2:10 p.m. (or a similar 6-hour day)
ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) Programs:
- July 5-Aug. 1 — Monday to Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Summer Rising 2022 Locations
Summer rising 2022 is going to be run by the local school’s leaders teachers and trusted community-based organizers in every neighborhood in New York City. This is because the program is basically being supported and sponsored by the New York city department of education. Summer Rising 2022 Application Requirements
In order for your kids to be eligible, they are set requirements that are needed for your kids to have to apply or use the application form. Below are the application requirements:
- Students must have a valid email address.
- Your children’s OSIS number is also required.
- The site must be available in-person to attend the program during the required hours.
