On-the-go video editors can now breathe a sigh of relief as DaVinci Resolve for the iPad has officially and finally found its way to the app store.

Blackmagic Design which are the developers that are behind the video editing software when announcing the release on the social media platform Twitter, said: “DaVinci Resolve for iPad now available! Get the same color correction and editing tools used on Hollywood films on iPad, plus Blackmagic Cloud multi-user collaboration, AI-based magic mask, voice isolation, dialogue leveler, and more.”

“Its elegant, modern interface is fast to learn and easy for new users, yet powerful for professionals,” the breathless App Store write-up however claimed. And just like its desktop counterpart, the iPad edition in question is available for free with next to no restrictions. The one-time premium upgrade of the app clocks in at just under $100 / £100.

DaVinci Resolve Is One of the Best Free Video Editing Software in the Market

For a long time considered as some of the best free video editing software in the market, the iPad version mirrors the professional desktop editor almost perfectly. This is a feat that is not even matched by the renowned Apple Final Cut Pro as you should know.

And with the video editing software now making its way to the iPad, one thing that is more likely to attract many content creators way beyond the non-existing price tag is the ability of the app to craft Hollywood-grade productions without even having a video editing laptop or video editing computer.

Blackmagic Design’s app-based editor works on iPad Pros that are running iPadOS 16 or later on an A12 Bionic chip or later. But, in order to really get the best out of the tool, an M1 or M2 chip is advisable. The developers of the tool also note that earlier iPad models may be restricted to HD, with memory limitations potentially curtailing some of its features.

Davinci Resolve Features

In our most recent preview of DaVinci Resolve for iPad, we were really pleased with the real-time color grading, multi-track audio, AI tools, and timeline editing tools. We however did stumble upon a few bugs and glitches while in beta. And hopefully, it has been sorted out now that the video editing app is on general release.
