The Call for Applications has been announced for the 2023 edition of the  Developing Essential Digitals Skills For Women and Youths. Suitably qualified Women and youth in the continent of Africa are hereby invited to apply for this remarkable Digital Skills learning program offered by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR).

This UNITAR’s Developing Essential Digitals Skills For Women and Youths programme, seeks to establish Green Livelihoods for Women and Youth in Africa, with the aim of “Strengthening Food Security, and Supporting Climate-Resilient Economies.”

Developing Essential Digitals Skills For Women and Youths Programme

The Developing Essential Digitals Skills For Women and Youths Programme is available for 24 countries in Africa. Through this program, UNITAR seeks to enhance employment opportunities and livelihood development in the Digital Economy. The programme will run for a duration of six months, in which Successful applicants (Participants) will acquire highly sort after digital skills, thereby increasing employment and income-generating potential.

This will develop socially oriented digital start-ups and improve leadership and entrepreneurial skills to drive change and innovation in their communities. The Digital Skills program is divided into three phases namely;

Online Training

This phase runs from September to December 2023, Participants are expected to complete self-paced e-modules on a digital learning platform, join webinars and receive online coaching and mentoring support.

Self-led Projects and Virtual Boot Camp

This phase will run from December 2023 to January 2024, all participants here would have been selected from Phase I on the basis of their performance, assignments, and presentations.

Sustainability and Community Leadership Training

The last phase of the programme (Phase III), will be held in February 2024. Successfully emerged Participants in this Phase will receive additional training on community-building and leadership skills. In addition, they will create a strong network of trainers for subsequent cohorts.

Eligibility Criteria for UNITAR Developing Essential Digitals Skills For Women and Youths

  • Only Candidates from the below listed 24 countries, will be prioritized, they include:

Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Burundi, Eritrea and Eswatini,

Specifically, UNITAR seeks for women and youth who meet the requirements below:

  • Women and Youth with passion for development and information technologies.
  • Age: 18 – 35 years old. Women over 35 years are encouraged to apply.
  • Sound oral and written English communication skills is required
  • Computer literate and have access to a laptop/internet.
  • Have interest in leveraging opportunities in digital technology.
  • Must be keen to succeed and make a positive impact on their communities
  • Must provide a recommendation letter from an individual with verifiable credentials.
  • Are University graduates and are tech-savvy.
