The OWSD Early Career Fellowship runs for two years and offers a grant of up to USD 50,000 to support research endeavors.

The Fellowship covers fellows’ research expenses but does not include the fellow’s salary, which must be guaranteed by the employing institution.

In addition, the fellowship requires the institution to waive any overhead or indirect costs associated with the research project, ensuring maximum utilization of the grant funds.

Financial Benefits and Rewards of OWSD Early Career Fellowship

  • The OWSD Early Career Fellowship provides up to USD 50,000. The Fellowship, however, does not provide for the fellow’s salary which must be guaranteed by the fellow’s institution.
  • The fellowship provides an initial advance payment of 33% percent of the total grant value
  • Reimbursements of expenses made with funds advanced by the Administering Institute
  • Provision of support for direct procurement done by the OWSD Secretariat on fellows’ behalf (note that only for purchases above USD 4,500)

Eligibility Requirements for OWSD Early Career Fellowship

  • The OWSD Early Career Fellowship is designed to identify promising candidates poised to drive meaningful change in their communities.
  • Applicants must have resided in one of the designated STLCs for at least five years;
  • She must hold employment at a qualifying institution;
  • Possess a PhD in a STEM field awarded within the past ten years.
  • Applicants are evaluated based on the quality of their research proposal, academic qualifications, leadership skills, and outreach efforts.
