Overwatch 2 is Getting a Guild System

Overwatch 2 Guild System

In an Overwatch 2 AMA, fans got answers to several questions. In the Reddit Thread, the development team was asked what new social systems would be joining the upcoming sequel. One player, in particular, was interested in knowing if clans or in-game tournaments would be heading to the game.

“We would be adding more social systems to the Overwatch 2 systems, and a guild system is close to the top of the list for use”, stated Game Director Aaron Keller. “a feature like this is a big opportunity and something we are really excited about, but it is a big lift, not just for large sections of our teams but several other departments located at Blizzard. We have put in some significant work towards this feature, but it is too early for you to talk about specifics or when it might come out.

Keller went on to say that the in-game tournaments are “something that the team would start digging into more”. He did not give the users any specifics as to what they might actually look like or when they would appear.

Why Guilds are Coming to Overwatch 2

The guild system is a feature that the fans have been asking to get for quite a while now. A Formal clan mechanic that would allow players to more easily coordinate matches and even organize cross-group games with rival parties. This would act as another social system making it a lot easier for you to locate other online players to buddy up with if you are desperate for a game.

A guild system also would open up the door to a more competitive possibility. It seems likely that clans would tie in with the tournament system that was teased in this AMA, with guilds competing against one another for titles and prizes. Add to that regional and global guild rankings, as well as a persistent guild leaderboard, and you have got yourself an entirely new competitive sector of the game.

Blizzard Pitching Overwatch 2

With Blizzard pitching the overwatch 2 to be a live-service title, the developer would most likely be looking forward to as many ways as possible to keep the players engaged between seasonal updates. Players-led guilds seem to be more like a straightforward way of making it work by upping community engagement.

There are no details yet as to when the guild system would emerge, but we know are aware of the fact that it would be coming after Overwatch 2’s new PvP component launches in early access on October 4. The PvE element of the game has been scheduled to come out next year.
