A fix has now been released by Nvidia for issues with its new RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 graphics cards experiencing a black or blank screen on boot-up in a host of unfortunate cases.

This really is not as bad as it sounds initially as the operating system will still load very much okay and normally produce the desktop in display eventually, you only get the blank screen on boot. That however means that you cannot get access to the BIOS for instance or get to see anything on the screen at all until you get to the OS environment. And not being able to get into the BIOS could be a very big problem in itself.

Nvidia Has Now Released a New GPU Firmware Update

And as reported by Tom’s Hardware, Nvidia has now released a new GPU firmware update for the RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 in a bid to cure all these blank screen problems. You should however note that the said issue will only happen with certain motherboards which are in UEFI mode.

Nvidia’s Note on the New Firmware Update

Nvidia states that: “The Nvidia GPU Firmware Update Tool will detect whether the firmware update is needed, and if needed, will give the user the option to update it.”

For those users that are experiencing a blank screen on boot with their new Lovelace GPU, you can now grab the relevant update here as Nvidia also provide instruction on how to install and get going with the update.
