New Tomb Raider Game has been Confirmed by Crystal Dynamics. A new video announcement that was shared by the official Tomb Raider account on Twitter has confirmed that a new “Tomb Raider” game is in the works and that it would be making use of Unreal Engine 5. This news is a pretty exciting one for series fans as there hasn’t been a new release in the series ever since 2018’s “Shadow of the Tomb Raider.”
New Tomb Raider Game Confirmed by Crystal Dynamics
In the video, a representative of Crystal Dynamics explains that as of recently (April 5th, 2022), the development team has started to work on the next entry in the “Tomb Raider” series. And that it has plans to utilize the new engine in other to create what it refers to as “next-level storytelling and gameplay experiences.” In other words, Unreal Engine 5 probably is going to make the look really impressive.
As stated by Crystal Dynamics’ spokesperson, “Our goal is to push the envelope of fidelity, and deliver the high-quality, cinematic action-adventure experience that the fans have deserved from both crystal dynamics and the ‘Tomb Raider’ franchise.”
Don’t Get too Excited Yet
While news concerning a new entry in a beloved game series that’s been relatively quiet for about four years now is sure to get fans buzzing, it might be a bit too soon for that. At the moment the only details that have been shared by crystals dynamics are that development has begun, which could mean that the game has started production, or that it is beginning its pre-production phase.
Given the right amount of time that it takes to make most video games – especially when it comes to the AAA space where there are tons of moving parts to the process – it’s likely would not be seeing Lara Croft’s next adventure in the next few years to come.
Also, there has been no indication concerning what the new “Tomb Raider” would feature, whether it would be a follow-up to “shadow of the Tomb raider”, or an entirely new storyline. Still, we are yet to know if they would be sticking to the sort of survival exploration, and crafting-heavy approach of the more recent games, if there would be a much bigger tomb, more combat, or more puzzles.
New Tomb Raider for Next-Gen Consoles
Also, we do not know what platforms they would be releasing it on – probably PS5 and Xbox Series X and S, but it might not be launching on the PS4 or the XboxOne. At the moment, there is no general release date estimate, either.
At the moment, all we know is that Crystal Dynamics is working on a different “Tomb Raider,” Square Enix is likely still publishing, and we are to be patient.
