Chrome OS 91.0.4472. 165 was rather pushed silently to all the users today and it wasn’t a major release that chrome M92 has been for the web browser. Unfortunately, this would seemingly innocuous update that is offering users some major headaches. A lot of Chromebook owners are now reporting that they would be able to log right back into their devices right after applying the update.

Google’s Chrome OS Update

Google has taken notice of their complaints and happen to have unfortunately confirmed the broken update. It happens to have pulled version 91.0.4472. 165 from their servers so that it would not be able to do any major damage. It stated that it also happens to be working on some interesting new update that will undo the damage that the previous update happens to have done.

Unfortunately, all those that have been affected bug don’t have some easy recourse. They also get to powerwash the Chromebook. This happens to be another term for resetting the device and clearing local data that is right on it. They also would roll back to the previous working version of the Chrome OS, but that also will require some technical knowledge when it comes to recovering from a USB device.

The easiest that the users would be required to do is to wait for Google’s fixed update, that is if they can wait for so long. Once it has been made available, users would be able to keep their Chromebooks on the login screen. Doing this would allow the update to download and install right in the background or to log into the guest mode to be able to carry out the update.

Hopefully, this mitigation would be arriving very soon. Especially as Google is now pushing Chromebooks as the perfect and most reliable device for work and study recently.
