Linda Yaccarino New Twitter CEO

Billionaire Elon Musk on Friday announced that Linda Yaccarino, the former head of advertising at NBCUniversal will be taking over the role of CEO of Twitter.

Elon Musk for some time now has been leading Twitter ever since he purchased it for $44 billion in the previous year. The CEO on Friday maintained that he will remain at the helm of product design and new technology as the CTO of Twitter, while Yaccarino on the other hand will be focused on business operations.

Musk’s Tweet Announcing the New CEO

“I am excited to welcome Linda Yaccarino as the new CEO of Twitter!” Musk in a tweet said. “@LindaYacc will focus primarily on business operations, while I focus on product design & new technology. Looking forward to working with Linda to transform this platform into X, the everything app.”

Musk on Thursday said that he would hire a new CEO for Twitter, which as of April is officially X Corp., without giving any specific name. Speculation started to swirl around Yaccarino when NBCUniversal confirmed she was leaving the media company on Friday morning.

Yaccarino’s Former Place of Employment

Yaccarino has worked at NBCU for over a decade, and serving most recently as chairman of global advertising and partnerships, as per The Wall Street Journal. She also reportedly played an important role in the launching of Peacock, the company’s ad-supported streaming service.

Musk stated that Yaccarino would be starting in six weeks’ time but however, did not give a specific date. Twitter did not respond to questions on the official start date of Yaccarino as well as the priorities once she takes the helm.

What to Expect From Twitter with This New Development

With Musk still leading the product design of the app, it is still unclear as to what impact Yaccarino will be having on the everyday experiences of users on Twitter.

You should know that Yaccarino has experience in both the media and advertising industries, which could very well help her to rebuild relationships with advertisers that reportedly left the social networking platform after it was bought by Musk.

Changes to Twitter Ever Since Musk Took Over

Twitter has undergone a host of changes ever since the company was taken over by Musk, with many of its products and services rolling out haphazardly. The company also revamped its Twitter Blue subscription service, thus adding features such as longer tweets and text formatting, but also causing confusion as well as backlash over verified check marks.

The site also has experienced repeated outages in most recent months, which could be very well due in part to Musk laying off tons of employees at the company. Critics also have raised concerns in regard to content moderation on the social media platform, with many of them saying that there has been a rise in misinformation and hate speech on the platform ever since the staff cuts began.
