Halloween was founded on 31st October. It was traced back to the ancient Celtic festival known as Samhain. However, Halloween is celebrated to ward off the spirits or souls of the dead. So being dressed up in costumes and lighting of bonfires was a way to ward off these spirits. According to Celtic mythology, the veil between the land of the living and the land of the dead thins during the Samhain, making it easier for the souls of the dead to return.
Most scholars agree that Halloween originated around 2000 years ago when Celtic people (a collection of Indo-European people) in Europe were said to be associated with death.
On Halloween which is October 31st ( New Year’s Eve) ghosts return to walk the earth hence people drop candies in Anatolia) and it was said that the Celt of ancient Ireland who celebrated the new year on November 1 marked the transition from the warm and fruitful summer months to the cold and dark winter which is or treat to guide their lost loved ones back to them. How Did Halloween Traditions Start & Why
In A.D. 43, The Roman Empire had conquered the majority of the Celtic territory. In 400 years that they ruled the Celtic lands, two festivals of Roman origin were combined with the traditional Celtic Celebration of Samhain. The first was Feraliava Day in late October when the Romans traditionally commemorated the passing of the dead. The second was a day to honor Pomona the Roman goddess of fruit trees. The symbol of Pomona is the apple and the incorporation of this celebration into the Samhain probably explains the traditions of bobbing for apple that is practised today on Halloween.

One of the most popular Halloween traditions in the United States is carving pumpkins, sometimes known as creating Jack-o’-Lanterns. It’s so popular. Many families see carving pumpkins as quite an ordeal.
How are Jack-o’-lanterns made?
- Choosing the ideal pumpkin starts with a trip to the pumpkin patch.
- Following the selection of one. After making a hole in the top of the pumpkin, you remove all of the seeds inside until the pumpkin is empty.
- Next comes the exciting part: create a creepy face by starting with triangular eyes and a ghoulish smile.
- Place a candle inside to make the face glow and give it a stunning appearance!
Visiting Haunted Houses
It sounds weird and eerie, doesn’t it? What could motivate someone to go to a haunted house on purpose? Haunted houses frequently have very spooky motivations, and occasionally they combine several terrifying subjects to produce the most spine-tingling and astounding experience imaginable. If you’re very daring, you and your pals can watch scary Halloween movie marathons. Or tell scary stories under the cover of darkness or around a bonfire in the woods.

The best part of Halloween is getting dressed up. Traditional Halloween costumes are based on classic figures from the holiday. Such as witches, monsters, ghosts, and, most importantly, vampires. A classic Halloween costume is always in style. Costumes based on pop culture can be entertaining. Halloween costumes don’t have to be complicated or elaborate. If all you want to do is scare everyone or simply enjoy the classic look, one of these vintage costume ideas will look great.
Trick or treat
“Trick or treat” requests for treats are made by costumed individuals as they go from door to house on Halloween evening. Although in certain cultures money is given instead of confectionery, the “treat” is typically some sort of candy or sweets. The term “trick” describes an idle threat to cause trouble for the resident(s) or their property if no treat is offered. Some people decorate their doors for Halloween as a way to indicate to passing cars that they are willing to give out candy; some simply leave candy out for kids to take at will on their porches; still, others leave treats on their porches for the taking.
