Applications are now open for the Cultural & Artistic Responses To The Environmental Crisis (CAREC) Program 2024. This year-long program aims to accelerate engaged community-based cultural practices focusing on climate justice, acknowledging the multifaceted dimensions of the environmental crisis.

Cultural & Artistic Responses to the Environmental Crisis (CAREC) Program

CAREC envisions alternative models of climate justice worldwide through interdisciplinary platforms, critical artistic work, and cross-disciplinary exchange. A few examples of how this program integrates interaction to support each artist in their own practice and to foster collaboration within the cohort are workshops, guest lectures, and peer-to-peer sessions.

CAREC Program Details

The majority of events take place virtually. However, participants meet in person twice during the program for two Lab Weeks, which are rigorous mentoring sessions lasting a week.

Activities for the Cultural & Artistic Responses to the Environmental Crisis (CAREC) Program, require an average time commitment of 10 hours per month, though this varies throughout the year.

Participants are expected to be comfortable sharing ideas in spoken English to foster a space of mutual learning and exchange.

Award:

Each of the 12 mid-career artists and cultural practitioners selected will receive €10,000 to develop a body of work outlined in their application.

Eligibility Criteria:

To be considered for the CAREC Program, Candidates must:

  • Hail from and based in one of the Prince Claus Fund-eligible countries.
  • I not have received a Prince Claus Mentorship Award before.
  • Must demonstrate clear artistic or cultural engagement with the environmental crisis and climate justice.
  • Must exhibit a clear community engagement approach.
  • Must have 8-15 years of relevant professional experience.
  • The application must be submitted in English.

  • Relevance to the local context.
  • Contribution to creating inclusive societies.
  • Potential for professional development and impact.
  • Potential to become a leader in the field.
