CFA, (short for Chartered Financial Analyst) Institute is a global institution that provides investment professionals with financial education. It aims to promote the standards in ethics, education and professional excellence in the global investment industry.
The CFA program is a postgraduate professional certification offered internationally by the American-based CFA Institute to investment and financial professionals. The program has the academic standing of a master’s degree according to the European Union and the United Kingdom. The CFA level two exam is equivalent to a Bachelors’s degree.
The program teaches a wide range of subjects relating to advanced investment analysis – including security analysis, statistics, probability theory, fixed income, derivatives, economics, financial analysis, corporate finance, alternative investments, portfolio management – and provides a generalist knowledge of other areas of finance.
A candidate who successfully completes the program and meets other professional requirements is awarded the “CFA charter” and becomes a “CFA charterholder”.
The full program is made up of three levels and takes between three to four years to complete.
