When Apple MagSafe was announced last October, lots of questions came to mind. How is MagSafe different from Qi wireless charging? Does this mean I want to shop for an expensive new charger?
Then I decided to dig in and learn all about MagSafe to see if Apple’s unique new wireless charging system is well worth the investment.
If you are in seeking to go into the adventure of learning what the Apple MagSafe is, then read along.
With MagSafe, Apple planted a magnet within the back of the iPhone 12. This keeps your device active while connected to a compatible charger.
These magnetic phone chargers open up a lot of the latest potential for accessories from mounts to stands, to power banks. There aren’t a lot of MagSafe products available just yet. But I’ve tested all those that I could get my hands on, from Apple Watch chargers to iPhone charging cases.
Apple MagSafe Case
MagSafe is a magnetic technology from Apple, built into the inner engineering of iPhone 12 models. Originally created as a security feature for MacBook charging cords, MagSafe was incorporated into the iPhone 12.
To make a new ecosystem of accessories for simple attachment and faster wireless charging.
How Does Apple MagSafe Work?
MagSafe is a series of magnets placed around the iPhone 12’s internal charging coil. And this senses other MagSafe compatible accessories and snaps seamlessly and securely into place.
MagSafe will only attach to other compatible MagSafe accessories, so there’s no point to worry about other magnets interfering or getting stuck to your phone.
When it involves iPhones, MagSafe uses 18 rectangular magnets shaped almost like a circle located around the internal charging coil.
These specialized magnets aren’t affected by other types of magnets and other metallic devices. For iPhones, the MagSafe was re-made to wirelessly charge devices faster than previously possible by keeping them perfectly aligned.
When in touch with MagSafe-compatible accessories, these internal magnets will always securely snap them into the right place.
Additionally, MagSafe allows iPhones to connect to new kinds of accessories that benefit from the snap-in-place. And quick release capabilities like wallets and power banks.
