2024 Mazda CX-90 Confirms Plug-In Hybrid

The first foray of Mazda into the heavier side of electrification came by the way of the MX-30 which is a cute all-electric hatchback as you should know, that despite having some really fun driving dynamics, comes up more than just a little short with a 100-mile driving range. And something tells us that the next electrified effort from Mazda which is the CX-90 will be way more portable to the public.

On Tuesday, Mazda announced that it will be introducing the 2024 CX-90 crossover in the United States in January. And ahead of that very reveal, Mazda has put out a teaser for the CX-90, thus showing off a tad bit of the rear end, as well as a bad signifying that the car will be available as a plug-in hybrid. Plug-in hybrids as you have already known are capable of driving for long distances on electricity alone; they, however, contain gas engines for providing motive force or for charging the battery of the PHEV.

Mazda Did Not Share More Details in Regards to Its New Powertrain

The automaker however did not divulge any more details in regards to its new powertrain, saying that it will only be offered nationally rather than locally as it was in the case of the MX-30. This very new PHEV setup is claimed to be “tuned specifically for the North American market,” although we are not quite sure what that really means.

The Badge Points to an Inline-6 Gas Engine under the Hood According To the Teaser

The only real hint that we have so far kind of comes from the previous teaser which is also shown on the future product’s website of Mazda. The badge reportedly points to an inline-6 gas engine under the hood which the automaker announced first back in October when it was very much still in development.

It’s still unclear if the inline-6 will be the gas engine that will be powering the PHEC variant, or if rather it will be coming with a smaller displacement gas engine with a couple (few) of cylinders. When the CX-90 gets a full debut in January e will get to know for sure.
